News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The departure of Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) Director Liam Hughes and the search for his successor will not derail SPRD's bid for a 15 cents per $1,000 local option levy in the May election.
SPRD Board Chairman Bob Keefer told The Nugget that "the board still wants to pursue our local option levy. That's going to continue."
Keefer noted that Hughes himself recommended that the District proceed.
Nor will the District wait to see the results of that election before seeking a new director.
"A lot of those qualities that we need in that position we're going to need whether we have the levy or not," Keefer said.
The SPRD board will meet on January 25 to determine its plans for a director search.
Asked what SPRD thinks the applicant pool might be like given a generally tight labor market, Keefer said, "That's hard to judge. With this position you have some specialty ... the quality of the applications is what will be most important."
Keefer expressed confidence that Sisters is a desirable place to locate and noted that in a previous search there were applicants from as far away as the East Coast.
