Girls squad earns split on hardwood

The Lady Outlaws started their week with a 44-20 win at home over the Huskies on Tuesday, January 16.

In Tuesday's action, the Outlaws distributed the ball well, had good ball movement, and the entire team played strong defense in their win over the Huskies.

It was a close first quarter with Sisters only up by one, 6-5. The Outlaws had a great second quarter offensively, put 20 points up on the scoreboard, and held the Huskies to four. At the half, Sisters held a 26-9 advantage.

The Outlaws outscored the Huskies 18-11 in the second half, and recorded their first league win.

Ten Outlaws got time on the court, and eight players contributed in the scoring effort. Rylee Weber led the team with nine points and 15 rebounds. Sydney Head scored eight points, and Gracen Sundstrom contributed seven. Alexa Stewart put up six points, Meaghan Greaney and Sophia Bianchi each tallied four, and Kaylee Huber and Olivia Hougham added three points each.

"It was a team win," said Coach Alan Von Stein. "The girls played good defense, and played hard. It was great to see balanced scoring, which in the long run will serve our team well."

Three days later, the Outlaws lost their game against the Tigers.

Sisters was down 10-4 at the close of the first period, but battled back in the second. At one point late in the second, the Outlaws only trailed by three, but then just couldn't get their shots to fall. At the half, JC held an 18-11 lead.

The Outlaws were outscored 28-12 in the second half to fall 46-23.

Head scored eight points, and Sundstrom added four. Weber had seven boards for the Outlaws, and Sundstrom had five.

"The girls played pretty well, but we just couldn't get our shots to fall," said Von Stein. "We really need to improve our shooting percentage."

Sisters was to play at Elmira on Tuesday, January 23, then travel to Sutherlin on Friday, January 26.
