Lady Outlaws snap losing streak

The Lady Outlaws snapped their four-game losing streak with a 46-30 win over the Huskies at Sweet Home on Tuesday, February 6, and are now 2-5 in conference play. The winning didn't last, though, as the Outlaws were defeated 62-26 by the Tigers at Junction City on Friday.

In Tuesday's game against the Huskies, the Outlaws played excellent defense, and did a great job pressing. The team got great looks at the basket, but only scored seven points in the first quarter; but it was enough to keep them on top (7-4) as they closed out the period.

At the half, the Outlaws held a slim 19-18 advantage. Sisters came out firing on all cylinders in the third, and Sydney Head scored six of her 10 points in the period. The team continued to stay focused, made their shots, and beat the Huskies by 16.

Seven of the nine Lady Outlaws who played contributed in the scoring effort. Leading scorers were: Head with 13, Lexi Stewart with 10, and Rylee Weber with nine.

Weber, Sisters' lone senior, commented, "Every game we come out ready to play and learn. It could be easy to not look past our season record, or our height, but this game shows we are still fighting and learning. Often we come out from the half slower, and that's where teams pull away from us, but this game we came out stronger and kicked it into gear. Everyone of us is getting better every game."

The Outlaws fell hard three days later to the No. 8-ranked Tigers.

Sisters went down 13-7 at the close of the first quarter, and at the half trailed 32-13. The second half was more of the same, and the Outlaws recorded the loss.

Coach Von Stein told The Nugget he felt the Outlaws played solid in all four quarters, but just couldn't convert their shots. Sisters shot only 22 percent from the field, while the Tigers shot 52 percent.

Kaylee Huber scored six points, and Lexi Stewart tallied five. Weber grabbed nine rebounds, and also had three assists.

Sisters was to play at home against Elmira on Tuesday, February 13, and planned to wear pink uniforms to raise cancer awareness. Half of the gate receipts will go to Volunteers in Medicine to help with medical costs for individuals in the Sisters community. The Outlaws will wrap up conference play with a home game against Sutherlin on Friday, February 16, and senior players will be recognized.
