Outlaws stay tied for first place

The Outlaws posted two wins on the road this past week to push their league record to 7-1, which kept them tied with Sutherlin for first place in conference play.

Sisters defeated the Huskies 43-36 at Sweet Home on Tuesday, February 6, and three days later they tallied a 64-48 road win at Junction City (JC).

Tuesday's contest against the Huskies was a hard-fought, physical battle. The Outlaws led for most of the contest, but in the middle of the fourth period the Huskies were able to tie it up.

With approximately two minutes left on the clock, the Outlaws were on top 30-28. Sisters would get a defensive stop, and then the Huskies would foul. Sisters was perfect at the line, and hit their last 13 free throws to secure the win; specifically Jack Berg, Ty Horner, and Zach Anderson, who all went four-for-four at the stripe, and Noah Richards who was one-for-two.

"It was an exciting game in which we competed well, kept our poise, and played well on free throws," said Coach David Godfrey. "Sweet Home came ready to play, and we had our hands full. But, we made enough plays to come out on top. This was another good win, especially on the road."

Anderson led all scorers with 14 points, followed by Richards who had nine. Berg and Horner each scored eight, and Brad Eagan and Austin Lake pitched in for two points each.

Richards said, "We were patient on offense, and we finished inside really well."

Three days later, the Outlaws posted another road win at Junction City.

Sisters played a strong, solid game en route to victory.

Godfrey said, "We shot well, we defended well, and we played with a good amount of poise at a gym that is a tough gym to play in. All in all, the kids played a good, balanced game.

Sisters handled the Tigers' press well. The Outlaws played especially well in the second and third quarters, where they outscored JC 44-26. Once they got the lead, they did a great job of keeping it, and held a 16-to-20 point lead for most of the second half.

Berg said, "We played well as a team, and passed the ball well, which allowed us to get open shots."

The Outlaws had balanced scoring, and three players finished in double figures. Berg scored 17 points, including four from behind the arc, Horner had 14, and Anderson recorded 10.

Isaiah Rush scored six, Brad Eagan and Richards contributed five each, and Austin Lake added four.

Sisters was to play at home against Elmira on Tuesday, February 13, decked out in pink uniforms, along with the girls, to help raise cancer awareness. Half of the gate receipts will go to Volunteers in Medicine to help with medical costs for individuals in the Sisters community. The Outlaws will host Sutherlin on Friday, three days later; and all senior players will be honored.
