News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys lacrosse team pulled off an exciting 10-9 win in overtime against Forest Grove on Saturday, March17, and a day earlier steamrolled over Hillsboro in an 8-1 victory.
Sisters scored eight goals on 40 shots in their win over Hillsboro on Friday. Stadeli scored four goals and had three assists, Morgan scored three goals and had one assist, and Judah Keeton rounded out the scoring effort with one goal.
Casey Warburton had a great game in the goal. Casey only allowed Hillsboro to score once, and he made some big point-blank saves.
Several players got their first taste of varsity lacrosse and played well, including Keeton, Connor Martin, Kinnon Rutherford, Jake Pilarski, Ethan Manuel, and Titan Kroytz.
On Saturday the Outlaws faced Forest Grove, a much stronger opponent than Hillsboro. The Vikings entered the contest scoring 14 and 15 goals in their two previous wins.
The Outlaws defense did a good job of containing the Vikings' scores in the first half, and the offense took good care of the ball. The teams entered the half even at 3-3.
Forest Grove got on a roll in the third quarter and grabbed a 7-5 lead by the close of the quarter. They scored two quick goals at the start of the fourth quarter, and it looked as if the game would slip away from the Outlaws.
Coach Paul Patton called a timeout, and the Outlaws came out refocused and ready, and scratched their way back. The Outlaw middies won a couple of face offs that converted to two goals and got Sisters within striking distance.
Sisters defense, comprised of Matt Harris, Sam Mitchell, and Ethan Kennedy, tightened up and held the Vikings scoreless for the remainder of the game, and Warburton remained solid in the goal.
Ethan Morgan scored the next two goals for the Outlaws and tied it up 9-9 with 1:30 left on the clock.
Time ran out and the game went to sudden death. Willie Stewart got the ground ball and made a pass to Jake Stevens, who made a fast break and then fed freshman Judah Keeton for the winning goal.
"That game-winning goal sparked a joyous celebration," said Patton.
Ethan Morgan and Trey Stadeli each had four goals in the contest. Freshmen Jake Pilarski and Judah Keeton each scored one goal, and keeper Casey Warburton recorded 12 saves.
The Outlaws' next game will be on Thursday, March 22, at Churchill, and on Friday they will face Thurston at home in Sisters.
