News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws were glad to get outside and play on an actual course this past week. The boys played in the Tokatee Invitational on Tuesday, March 13, and the girls participated in the Crooked River Ranch Icebreaker a day later.
On Tuesday, the boys played under horrible weather conditions, which included cold and steady rain for five straight hours. Only three players were able to finish: Wyatt Hernandez finished with a 98, Peyton Myhre was just one stroke back at 99, and Connor Crowe carded a 122. Patrick Dingeman and Colby Parsons made it through 15 holes before retiring.
"All the boys deserve credit for a tremendous effort in basically unplayable conditions," said Coach Bill Mitchell.
The Lady Outlaws had three players finish 18 holes in cold and overcast weather. Emma Farley had a great first time out for the season. Emma carded a 49 on the front nine, with two pars and on the eighth hole she tapped in a three-foot putt for birdie.
AriAnne Griffey was also solid for her first event. AriAnne shot a 56-54-110. Emilie Turpin finished all 18 holes for the first time in her career. Emilie shot a 78-74-152. Mitchell told The Nugget that Emilie showed a lot of courage by finishing the round.
Bend won the tournament with a score of 349, Crook County was runner-up at 458, Summit third (380), and Ridgeview fourth at 459. Redmond, Sisters, and Sweet Home all competed with incomplete teams.
Both the boys and girls golf squads will play at Eagle Crest on Thursday, March 22.
