Orville Wesley Carroll December 2, 1924 - March 10, 2018

Orville Wesley Carrol of Rome, New York, died March 10, 2018 of natural causes.

He was born at home in Bend on December 2, 1924 to George C. and Marie C. Sosinsky Carroll. Except for a three-year sojourn in Stockton, California, and a summer's job in Wenatchee, Washington, Mr. Carroll lived and worked in Oregon at various occupations, including time in Sisters.

From July 1943 until March 1945, Mr. Carroll served in the United States Army Air Force stationed in Guam with the 315th Bomb Wing. He attended Oregon State College and the University of Oregon, where he received a degree in architecture in 1958.

From 1958 until his retirement in 1989, he was employed as a historical architect by the National Park Service.

He was responsible for restoration and rehabilitation projects in Virginia at Yorktown, Manassas, Appomattox Court House and Fredericksburg; in Massachusetts at Adams National Historic Site in Quincy, MinuteMan National Historic Park, Salem Maritime National Historic Site, Saugus Iron Works, Charlestown Navy Yard, Springfield Armory, John F. Kennedy birthplace, Olmsted National Historic Site and Lowell National Historic Park; in New York at Martin van Buren National Historic Site and Fort Stanwix National Monument with assistance given at Saratoga National Historic Park, the Gen.

He also worked on Moses Washington Carver National Historic Monument, Pea Ridge National Military Park, and Vicksburg National Military Park.

His career began with the National Park Service at Fort McHenry in Baltimore and ended at the Charleston Navy Yard.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roselyn Infusino Carroll; sister, Kathleen Carroll Williams; two brothers, George W. Carroll and Blaine Carroll.

Surviving family members include sister Naomi Carroll Smith; nieces Jan Kroeker, Laurie Wright, Sunny Phillips, Jeff Smith; nephew Michael Smith; and numerous great-nieces and nephews; and one godson, David Nelson of Fairfax, Virginia.

A service will be held April 21, 2018, at the Best Western Ponderosa Lodge at 500 Highway 20 W in Sisters, in the Ponderosa Room beginning at 1 p.m.
