Agencies to hold active-threat training at schools

Police and first responders will be operating in and around two Sisters schools on Saturday in an active-threat drill.

Sisters-Camp Sherman, Black Butte Ranch and Cloverdale fire districts personnel are planning to participate with local law enforcement including Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, Deschutes County 911, Oregon State Police, Black Butte Ranch Police and the Forest Service in a joint training exercise Saturday, May 19 at Sisters middle and high schools.

The active-threat exercise will allow each agency to simulate what their role would be in the event of an active shooter event at local schools.

The exercise is set to begin at 8 a.m. and is expected to conclude around 1 p.m. Area residents and visitors can expect to see an increase of emergency services vehicles around both schools during the exercise.

Deputy Chief Tim Craig said, "This training is critical to our local emergency services staff so that we are prepared in the unlikely event of a shooting in one of our public facilities. We are thankful for the cooperation and support from the Sisters School District in allowing us to use their facilities for this training."
