Gypsy Wind clothing opens in Sisters

Since 2008, Janet Kronemeyer, a native Oregonian, has enjoyed owning a retail clothing store that originated in Cottage Grove. But when the travel bug hit her, she and her husband, Tony, moved to Kona, Hawaii, and opened a new shop there.

They had no clue at the time that they would pack up the clothing store several times - like gypsies in the wind - before settling down in Sisters.

"We live up to the name 'Gypsy Wind Clothing,' since we've had stores in Hawaii, Mexico, Arizona and Oregon," Kronemeyer said.

Before moving into retail, Kronemeyer owned a real estate company in Brookings.

"I had a friend in Brookings that owned a women's clothing store and I volunteered to help her out occasionally, and it was so much more fun than real estate, I opened my first clothing store when we moved to Cottage Grove," she recalled

Wherever Kronemeyer's retail store landed in her travels she would find clothing lines to fit the cultural aspects of the area.

"My husband and I have been blessed with having a lot of fun and some wonderful adventures with our clothing store, and we knew it was time to put down our roots, but didn't know where to go," Kronemeyer said.

That's when Kronemeyer realized there's no place like home, so last May they hightailed it back to Oregon and signed up to do the Redmond Home & Garden Show.

"We met the owners of the building we are in now at the show, and they said they had a perfect place for our retail store," she said. "The location was perfect. And of all the places we wanted to live, Sisters was at the top of our list."

Kronemeyer carries several different kinds of clothing lines to choose from, one being a travel/comfy clothing line for the adventurer in everyone. She also carries her own line of clothing.

"I started designing 'shawls that don't fall off' when my store was based in Mexico," she told The Nugget. "I am always looking for beautiful ways to provide some coverage for the sleeveless dresses and tops."

Kronemeyer created two different styles; a two-button shawl that drops over the head and is one-size-fits-all and an innovative three-button shawl that can be worn in a couple of different ways.

Kronemeyer said, "For my customers I carry unique, fun, and affordable clothing for extraordinary everyday women. Clothing for work, play, or travel. Clothing for wherever the winds of life take you!"

Gypsy Wind Clothing is located at 351 W. Hood Ave., on the corner next to the Gary Cooley Gallery.
