News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Lois Louise Mason November 18, 1945 - May 2, 2017

Lois Mason passed away peacefully while in home hospice, with her husband, Phil, at her side. She died as she lived, with quiet dignity. Born to parents Harold and June Marshall, she was raised on a farm in rural Washington. The family was large: two sisters and three brothers. She graduated from a Seventh-day Adventist academy. A good student, she was an avid reader of novels by such authors as James Michener. She loved travel, cooking, and her dogs.

At age 19 she married Ron Critchlow, an army recruiter. They were stationed in Germany and Texas. Two children, Lloyd and Loretta, arrived and later blessed Lois with three grandchildren: Crystal, Ash, and Alexander. Although the marriage ended in divorce, she remained close friends with Ron.

In 1976 Lois met and later married Phil Mason. Lois, having worked in the service industry, initiated the purchase of Lila's Restaurant & Lounge in Portland. Over the years, she and Phil owned and operated several more establishments in the area.

The victim of a stroke in 2006, she retired to Sisters and Tucson. Although partially paralyzed and in constant pain, she never complained. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She is missed. Everyone smiles when remembering this sweet, caring, compassionate woman.
