News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Outlaws boys soccer returns an experienced squad, which finished second in the Sky-Em Conference last year. This year they will play in the Oregon West League.
First-team all-league returning players include seniors Asher Bachtold, Keaton Green, and Colby Simeral. Willie Stewart, Kinnon Rutherford, and Samson Henneous were second-team selections last season, and are also back for another year. Other returnees with varsity experience include Sam Nicklous, Skyler Larson, and Cole Seymour.
Bachtold, a four-year starter, plays at midfield and dominates the ball.
Coach Rob Jensen said, "Asher has bulked up in the off-season, and will be a force down the spine."
Simeral, Stewart, and Green are both three-year starters. Colby was a top scorer for the Outlaws last year, and will be a threat from outside the 18. Willie has a great ability to read the ball, and is solid on and off the ball as a defender. Keaton's season will be cut short due to a study abroad in Costa Rica, but while with the team Jensen noted he will provide great athleticism in the midfield, and positive leadership.
Rutherford has improved his game tremendously, and will be the anchor of the team at center-back. Jensen stated that Kinnon's experience and timing will be critical.
Henneous put in a lot of time this summer, and Jensen said that he will be a wall at the keeper position. Samson's foot skills will allow Jensen to play him like a field player.
Jude Kokesh-Carhart (senior) missed last season due to an injury, but will return to the team this year. Jude scored six goals his sophomore year.
Larson and Kokesh-Carhart will play at both midfield and forward. Both are clever players and find ways to create opportunities for themselves and others.
Seymour saw lots of action last year. Cole is a strong speedster down the wings, and up top he has a nose for the goal.
Nicklous, according to Jensen, has grown in all aspects of the game, and is a player who creates flow, keeps the Outlaws ticking, and plays lock-down defense.
Jensen said, "All these players have improved and matured, which will give the team experience as they head into the toughest soccer league in the state."
Key newcomers to the team include transfer Connor Linn, who will play defense and midfield; Hudson Jones, who will play defense; and Orry Abbenhuis, who will see time in the midfield.
Jensen said, "We are focusing on constant improvement and having fun, which should give us the playoff results we are looking for."
