Frances Price is an unusual woman. She lives on the Upper East Side with her adult son, Malcolm, who is actually not so adult. They live with a cat named Small Frank who Frances believes is her late husband. His death sinks them into scandal and bankruptcy, which threatens to halt their high society status and luxurious lifestyle.

Frances, with her flare for ignoring the obvious, decides the only solution is to move to Paris. So off they go on an ocean voyage to The City of Light to live in a friend's place. Their ocean adventure is a story in itself, filled with quirky characters and dark happenings. The tale continues with a cast of new friends including a psychic and a doctor who become part of their Paris lifestyle.

Once again, best-selling Portland author Patrick deWitt brings readers a page-turner filled with exquisite sentences. His beautiful writing with dark twists creates an odd tale of family and love surrounded by status. It's a compassionate story, and readers will enjoy going along on the journey.

Traveling to Portland soon? DeWitt and over 100 authors will be speaking at the 2018 Portland Book Festival on November 10. A full day of literature and fun! Also, keep an eye out for the release of the movie "The Sisters Brothers," based on his novel.
