Prescribed burn date moved to Sunday

UPDATE - Camp Sherman prescribed burn moved to Sunday.

The Sisters Ranger District is planning to burn this SUNDAY in two units totaling 171 acres near Camp Sherman at the junction of Forest Service Roads 1216 and 1419.

Traffic flaggers will be in place on Forest Service Road 1419. Smoke from these burns may be visible to those in Camp Sherman and Sisters. Wind directions are forecast out of the east north east through the weekend. Expect smoke impacts to be highest north of Camp Sherman Store, down river. Night-time temperatures and inversions will increase smoke impacts to the Metolius Meadows community and Lake Creek Lodge.

According to fire managers, the prescribed burn will help restore larch, western white pine, Douglas fir, and ponderosa pine ecosystems by reintroducing moderate intensity fire, increase the safety of nearby communities by reducing hazardous fuels, and improve wildlife habitat.
