News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters High School students returned money that had been given to them by another student under suspicious circumstances on Monday.
Principal Joe Hosang reported the incident to parents and community member Monday afternoon.
"A student was distributing $100 bills today and throughout the weekend to other students," Hosang reported. "We are still investigating the details of the situation and we are trying to collect the money. Our hope is to figure out the who, the what, and the where as well as return all the money to the owner."
The owner has not been identified.
Hosang said that he was proud of the way students responded when the situation was brought to light.
"I announced the situation around 2:45 p.m. (Monday), asking our students for their help. Within minutes, we had a large group of students coming to the office to return the money and provide information. Additionally, we had parents calling and texting us after school saying they were aware of the situation and they will be stopping by tomorrow (Tuesday) to return the money. We certainly know that kids will make mistakes, but we also need to know that we have some great kids who have some strong fundamental values."
More than $2,000 has been returned.
Hosang said that the investigation will take a few days and requested that anyone who has relevant information contact him at 541-549-4045.
