James William Morgan, 91, of Sisters passed away August 2, 2020. Jim was born to Walter and Floy (Souden) Morgan in Mill City, September 4, 1928. He attended elementary school in Silverton, graduating from high school in Corvallis in 1946. He enlisted in the Army following his graduation and served as a part of the Army Occupation Forces in Japan during WWII.
After Jim’s discharge from the Army, he worked on a number of farms and dairies in the Corvallis area. He married Madge Schreiber with whom he raised four children. He was employed by the Oregon Department of Agriculture for 12 years as a dairy sanitarian in Salem, North Bend, Bend and Albany. He left this position to attend Multnomah School of education in 1975. He was employed by Oregon State Accident Insurance Fund, retiring as vice-president and director of insurance support in 1987.
He moved to the Sisters area in 1990, continuing to be active in church ministries in both the Baptist and the Community Church in Sisters. He served for 15 years as a part of the rotating pastoral team at The Chapel in the Pines in Camp Sherman.
Following the death of his wife Madge in 2000, he married Karen Manbeck of the Sisters area. They have lived in the Buck Run area of Sisters since that time.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Morgan, Sisters; children: James, Jr. “Bill” (Colin) Morgan, Ashland; Robin (Penny) Morgan, Dallas; Wendy (Rockie) Boxall, Keizer; and Kathy Carey, Salem; along with eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Private military graveside services were held at Deschutes Memorial Gardens, Bend. A public celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, September 19, at 1 p.m., at Sisters Community Church, 1300 McKenzie Hwy., Sisters.
