UPDATED and REVISED — Green Ridge Fire grows rapidly

UPDATE #2: Central Oregon interagency Dispatch corrected their estimate of the Green Ridge Fire to 500 acres as of Tuesday evening. Infrared mapping of the fire area overnight will likely yield a more precise estimate.

UPDATE: Within an hour of reporting an estimated 80 acres on the Green Ridge Fire, fire officials are revising that number significantly. Sisters District Ranger Ian Reid told The Nugget that estimates are difficult due to smoky conditions, but the most recent estimate he heard is 300 acres. Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch reported an estimate of 800 acres. In any case, the fire has grown very rapidly this afternoon and the situation continues to evolve.

Winds have pushed the Green Ridge Fire two miles northeast of Camp Sherman to 80 acres in heavy vegetation.

Sisters Airport is active as aerial assets stage there to assist ground firefighters in attempting to build containment lines.

Sisters Middle School is now serving as a fire base camp.
